Rules

The Rules Of GimmeGolf Are Quite Simple....

Gimme Golf: Format and Rules

1.   Entry in the main draw is currently limited to 16 players and entry is comes with the sponsorship.   However, all official entries will need to be registered in advance with the Pro Shop for the first round draw.

2.    The event should take place using a round-robin format in groups of 4. This means that all players play a minimum of 3 X 3 Holes matches against all members of their group.

3.     All players must play with the ball they are given.   Players are expected to provide their own putters, however the sharing of putters is encouraged –   (and spares will be available on the day from the Pro Shop if needed ).

4.   The format is quite simple:

– There will be 4 pool groups of 4 x players (groups named A to D).   These groups will be made up of 4 players (ideally, 3 x players of around a similar standard and approximate age-category, plus one more experienced player, who will be expected to ensure group play runs smoothly…  (this is also a method of initially seeding the better ranked players).

Each group match will be a 3 x 3-hole straight matchplay contest against every other player in the group, in round robin format.

Players are actively encouraged to ‘Give’ each other putts that are shorter than the length of a standard putter shaft below the grip.  Hence, ‘GimmeGolf’

5.    Each round-robin group of 4 will keep track of their own match results.   A match can be deemed halved, and the points shared, but the amount of hole in ones in any given match will always be the tie-breakers in GimmeGolf.

6.    When the tournament reaches the quarter-final stage, then the top two players in each group will play matches against the winners and 2nd place of each other group.

7.    It is hoped that all players will be open to being photographed or videoed playing while playing their matches, but any objections will be respected.

8.   In the event of rain delays there will be breaks in play, and balls should  be marked.   Players are expected to bring umbrellas and suitable clothing.  It is expected that players will be respectfully silent during an opponents shot  – and no ‘Gimme’ of a putt is permitted unless the opponent hands the player their ball.

9.    The entire event should be well completed before daylight starts to fade. Any disputes should be settled amongst the group..

10.    Ultimately, this is to be considered a friendly, social event as well as a sporting contest, and so sportsmanship and good humour is appreciated throughout.    Any questions, suggestions or adjustments to:    GimmeGolf.ie@gmail.com
